WestJet will accept one piece of baggage containing humanitarian aid per guest with the following restrictions:
- The flight must be departing from Canada
- The humanitarian aid items must be packed separately from your belongings
- The baggage item must not exceed the checked baggage allowance for the aircraft you will be travelling on, or the amount permitted to your intended destination
- Baggage which exceeds the standard size and weight allowances will be charged the applicable overweight and oversized baggage fee(s)
Air Transat (Nolitours):
In order to proceed with a humanitarian request, we do require a letter from a recognized Canadian or international organization that would confirm your humanitarian work, including the extra kilos that are being requested. Since we receive so many requests from passengers regarding excess baggage, we try to remain as strict as possible so that everyone benefits from the same policy.
If you are not able to obtain a letter and you still wish to carry humanitarian donations to remit to recipients personally, you can do so as part of your personal baggage allowance. Should the donations and baggage combined exceed your baggage allowance, excess baggage fees will be applied. In addition, passengers are responsible for any import procedures or applicable customs/duties at the destination.
*** However, here are two alternative options for you, in order to reduce excess baggage fees***:
1) Options Plus
2) Kiloflex :

Sunwing shares your concerns and we remain extremely close to the charitable organizations that we have supported in the past and will continue to support in the future. It would be my pleasure to provide you with Information regarding Sunwing’s humanitarian aid policy which applies to all registered charitable organizations. As you may be aware, all aircraft have weight limitations and for this reason flights to Haiti, Santiago de Cuba in Cuba, Acapulco, Huatulco, Puerto Vallarta, Costa Rica, Panama, Kingston in Jamaica and Christmas flights to Montego Bay in Jamaica, as well as all flights out of Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland will be excluded. Also, we will not be able to guarantee that all humanitarian aid/excess baggage will be carried. Please be aware that any consideration is limited and that should your request be considered that the humanitarian aid/excess baggage will be accepted on a “stand-by” basis, weight/space permitting – that it must be separate to the free baggage allowance; packed in a separate bag(s) and it will be subject to inspection. Please ensure that there will be someone to take it home for you in the unlikely event that it does not travel with you.
Please be aware that there are certain items that are prohibited from carriage on any aircraft. Please refer to the Transport Canada and Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) websites for up to date information on items designated as prohibited dangerous goods and restricted carry-on items.
Sunwing’s policy for the carriage of humanitarian goods for our passenger who is associated with a registered charitable organization, should it be considered and provided the required information/documents from the registered charity are in order, including the charity registration number, is a discounted charge of CAD$5.00 per kilo for up to 10 kilos of additional checked baggage. Anything in excess of that will be paid at the regular excess baggage charge of CAD$20.00 per kilo. Payment will be collected at the airport.
We require your information at least 6 weeks prior to your intended departure date along with your booking number. Unfortunately we are not able to consider every request due to the volume of requests we receive. Upon authorization of your request, should it be considered, you will receive an email/letter that must be presented to the counter at the time of check-in for the applicable flight. The check-in agents will administer the applicable excess baggage charge which is subject to change.
We are committed to our passengers. In an era where other air carriers are charging for any checked baggage, we, at Sunwing, are committed to continue offering our paying passenger a free checked-in baggage allowance of 20KGs in addition to a host of amenities that are offered free of charge on Sunwing Airlines.
Sunwing Airlines continues to offer a full onboard product and outstanding customer service that has become our passenger’s favourite and the industry benchmark. You may also or alternatively wish to consider the exceptional value of our Elite Plus service which includes an additional 10KGs checked-in baggage weight allowance in addition to many other advantages. Additionally, you may prepay excess baggage weight for a better value. Please contact the Sunwing Sales Centre at 1-877-SUNWING (786-9464) for any information.
